Sketch 45
Santa Maria del Fiore
A skyline study of Florence centered on Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto's campanile and Brunelleschi's dome. The drawing reduces the surrounding roofs to a soft horizontal field so the cathedral's vertical hierarchy and dominant cupola can be read at the scale of the historic city.
